M&M visit the vet

We took Mia in for a visit to our vet to give her a check over and introduce them. Maya came along to hold Mia's paw. Maya however has a long memory and was not enthusiastic about going into the vets office but she was conjoled in with a treat and interest in another vet visitor.

Maya and Mia look very similar but Maya is wider through the back than Mia. Maya has a much heavier coat as well which broadens her appearance. If we were to guess from their looks we would have thought Maya was heavier than Mia. However, once we had them on the scale the real story emerged. Maya is about 15.9 kilograms or 35 pounds while Mia is about 16.8 kilograms or 37 pounds.

Watching them run and play in a variety of conditions I have decided that Maya is like a quarter horse as she is very agile and quick in every direction. Mia is more like a thoroughbred horse as she is a fast runner and likes to go in straight line.

I pity any poor critters that they give chase to.

So Mia had a good check up and a clean bill of health and the girls hung out while I chatted with the vet about various food choices for the two of them to maintain their good weights and healthy coats.
Maya was pleased not to have any shots and enjoyed the treats she got so hopefully next time she will have an easier to time visiting the doc's office. Mia was a trooper and took all the poking and prodding in stride. Once back on the floor with Maya she was her usual frisky self.

Their combined weight was a shade over 72 pounds in this picture. Next check-up is scheduled for late October. Based on the vet's advice we have them on the same food now and will monitor how they each handle this diet over the next six months.
